Is there a minimum amount (or minimum number of shares) to trade in the U.S. stock market?

I'm new to this, but I have a securities account in a line stock quotes of the company. and requires that I make at least one trade every quarter or they will close my account. At this time, I do not have much money to run a good business .. Can I purchase a town with a small amount (like a AFEW cents) and pay the company from the committee? or is there a minimum amount or minimum number of shares that i cannot buy below?

Normally there is minimal, but some companies charge a fee if it is inactive. Just so you know, there are plenty of brokererages good depending on what you like and how trade. Barron's Online has a great brokerages article that published each year. (I'll try to find the link to the article of March 6.2006) for the basic stuff, E * Trade, Ameritrade, and Scottrade are sufficient. For more complex operations, I'd recommend OptionsXpress, thinkorswim, or interactivebrokers. Based on what you put in your question, I would recommend one of the first three, or perhaps Optionxpress, but all are very good. Scottrade's probably cheaper (for the largest companies in line). Yes there is interactivebrokers cheaper alternatives such, but you will have to adjust to their platform-based software (which is feasible). They are only about $ 1/contract on options! Brokerages like Fidelity are horrible for anyone with any decent experience. Therefore, decide what is important to you as a dealer and compare the brokers! You can use the article or go to each website, since everyone seems to have comparison charts: If you have any questions, let me know. I hope that helps!
